Am I a soccer fan? Nope, but I know the insane power of sports. And the following stats from TikTok “coverage” of EURO 2024 shows unlimited opportunities for brands.

72% of global TikTok users say they enjoy watching fan edits, reaction videos, or other fan-made sports content on TikTok, with over 60% saying they feel a strong sense of community with other sports fans on the platform.”

Major interest. Major upside for brands to get involved. 

You don’t need to sign a star athlete to an influencer contract or have rights to broadcast official content. All a brand needs is to hook up with fan-made content that’s worth watching and connects these sports fanatics with what they love.

Oversaturated Market

Decades ago, I thought there had to be a limit on how much sports a fan could watch:

  • Pregame shows
  • 3.5 hour games
  • Radio call-in shows
  • Highlight shows
  • Postgame shows
  • Sports documentaries

That was before the internet! Then came podcasts, sports betting shows on YouTube, athletes on social media, and even popular websites that covered the people who covered sports!

So… I was wrong. Sports fans can not get enough sports coverage.

Let me say it again. Fans can’t get enough, will never be satiated, and that means businesses big and small should take advantage and get in on the action. 

There’s no user-generated content like that which connects to sports. (93 of the top 100 TV telecasts in 2023 were NFL games, BTW).

YouTube works just as well, prolly better due to better UX. Then there’s Spotify. And email newsletters.

Heck, I could list a hundred other places (were I not hungover) you could upload or sponsor fan-created sports content. 

Even tiny businesses could work with high school teams or their fans, sponsoring videos, articles, highlights, audio content, etc.

Sure, billion-dollar sports TV contracts get the headlines. But you don’t need high-production value.

Pat McAfee looks like he belongs in a bar at 11 AM versus the 17-million-dollar-a-year sports personality he is. 

As I drop one more TikTok EURO 2024 report stat, I’d encourage you to get on board with leveraging sports content to promote your business. I won’t rush you, though. This opportunity will always be available since fans’ appetites are bottomless.

Good read on price increases. If you need a prayer session over a slight price increase, you should commit arson on your sucky business.”~ Warren Buffet. Paraphrased😅, but you get the point.

The article linked above suggests ways to test price increases:

  • Raise prices 2-3% then evaluate over the next few months
  • Watch out for “psychological price walls,” usually even dollar amounts (i.e., $10, $50, $100, etc.)
  • Get feedback from non-buyers to find out why they didn’t buy (“price” often isn’t the true reason, dig deeper)

For solopreneur service providers, price jobs you don’t really want at ridiculous prices so it’s a win whether you get the work or not. Some work isn’t worth the hassle at any price, though.
